May S. Aguilar: Corporate Lawyer in Cebu City
May S. Aguilar, the Firm’s managing partner, has been in law practice since 1994. She is a practicing lawyer, law professor, licensed broker, and published author.
Atty. Aguilar obtained her degree in Political Science from Silliman University in 1989, magna cum laude, and her Law degree from Silliman University College of Law in 1993, where she graduated cum laude. She was admitted to the Philippine Bar the following year.
Prior to founding Cavada & Aguilar Law Firm, Atty. Aguilar was an associate legal counsel and corporate secretary at Aboitiz & Co. from 1994 to 1999 and a senior associate at SGV & Co. from 1999 to 2001. Thereafter, she joined Tanco & Partners as a partner until 2005, when she left to establish her own firm. She also established her own manufacturing company, Maia Gianna Organic MFG, in 2014. After several years in solo practice, she joined Atty. Mario Cavada in founding Cavada & Aguilar Law Firm in 2022.
Atty. Aguilar is a former lecturer at several law schools, including the University of San Carlos School of Law and Governance, University of San Jose-Recoletos School of Law, and College of Maasin College of Law. She has been an active speaker at various Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) seminars since 2007, lecturing on different topics covering Family Law, legal writing, oral advocacy, cross-examination techniques, and stress management.
Aside from being a practicing lawyer, Atty. Aguilar is a member of the Board of Trustees of Silliman University since 2018. She is also a member of the Lupong Tagapamayapa of Barangay Tunghaan, Minganilla, Cebu. In her spare time, Atty. Aguilar writes law books intended for non-lawyers.
